If
you think the Church of England is all about ancient hymns and long, boring
sermons, then you haven’t visited St. Peter’s Church. Yes, we
do sometimes sing an older hymn - there are some very good ones which are
still relevant today.
|
|
But our
worship is led by a band of musicians with a variety of talents. Although
they are not all there every week, a full complement consists of piano,
electric guitar, electric acoustic guitar, keyboard, lead singer and rhythm
accompaniment. So even the older hymns get livened up a bit!
|

|
|
The
newer songs are usually ones written in the last 10 to 20 years and can be very
lively, or slower and thought-provoking.

|
A
typical service starts at 10.30am with some worship songs and prayers, then we split for our Teaching Time. The children are
taught in groups and the younger ones usually end up with something they
have made to take home.
|
|
The
adults get to hear a Bible reading or two and a challenging talk by one of
a number of preachers who use a variety of preaching styles.
We
join together again for the last ten to fifteen minutes for more prayers
and worship songs. We also have a Family Time, which is a slot where we can
share any important things that have been happening in the church
“family”. We sing Happy Birthday to anyone (of any age) who is
brave enough to admit to having had a birthday in the last week.
|
|
Once
a month (usually the fourth Sunday, but it can vary) we hold an informal
Communion service.
There
are usually 20 to 30 people at each service, and we finish at about 11.30am
with coffee, juice and biscuits.
Many
people who have come along “just to see what it is like” come
back again. A family who came for the first time recently commented that
even

though they
didn’t know the songs, the music was so lively and the welcome so warm
and friendly, that they would definitely be back. And they were!

We
meet in the hall at Northburn School, every
Sunday from 10.30am for about an hour. We welcome new faces - singles,
couples or families, of any age, whether just passing through or staying a
while.
|
|
So
if you have been wondering what life is all about, when so much of the
world seems to be troubled, come along and join us. We’re all on a
journey, searching for answers to difficult or impossible questions. So
let’s journey together!
