Funerals in St. Nicholas' Church
Contrary to what some people think, you don't need to be a churchgoer to have a funeral service in St Nicholas' Church. The extra cost involved is for the funeral cars to travel via church, for the organist and verger fees and a £4 admin charge. We allow families to have a collection in church for a charity of their choice. It is possible to have suitable music played in church from a CD as well as live on the organ. |
These days many people are planning their own funeral arrangements, including the funeral service, in advance. Members of the clergy and Funeral Directors can help with this. They would advise on such details as music and the type of service, whether in Church or at the Crematorium.
They could also help in the decision between burial or cremation followed by burial of the ashes. It is possible to bury loose ashes (not in a casket) in the Garden of Remembrance on the south side of St Nicholas' Church. |
Following the funeral bereaved people may on request meet with a member of our parish 'Bereavement Support team'. These are not counsellors, but have had listening skills training and Criminal Records Bureau clearance.
There is a lot of information available on the Internet about funerals, and what to do after a death. The National Society of Allied and Independant Funeral Directors site is just one example. |
